This Site is Under Construction

We are building this site for the Cowboy Chautauqua Company, a troupe of cowboy entertainers - musicians, poets, humorists, writers, singers. It will take time, perhaps a month, to get this site in proper order. In the meantime, keep coming back to see how we're getting along. We'll be posting some blogs, pictures, music, and other things . . . and we'll be creating links with our entertainers.

What we do best is put on stage shows.  We can work in all sorts of other formats, but we're primarily a troupe of musicians, poets, humorists, and singers.  And what makes us different from anything else out there in the cowboy business? What we do is a real production, not a variety show. We we even work from a script, a narration that ties our various presentations together in a way that educates audiences as to what the cowboy is all about . . . and we make it as entertaining as any stage show needs to be. Keep coming back

About the Business
We think the world of performing arts lost something when the chautauqua movement died out some three quarters of a century ago. Back then when there was no other entertainment venue to speak of, the chautauqua stage shows were important social instruments - not only of information, but of education in that they brought the more advanced culture of the eastern cities to the rest of the nation. Some of the best entertainers in American joined these traveling road shows and became a part of the the chautauqua circuit. Radio and motion pictures killed them off . . . but neither of these media can replace the experience of having seen a performance in person. The Cowboy Chautauqua Company is somewhat of a throw-back . . . a trip in the the past where the entertainer stood on stage in front of live audiences. We draw our performers from a pool of enterainers who have agreed to work with us, and they are to a man seasoned veterans of the stage. Our shows are in one sense old timey, just as they were back then, but we don't just do traditional music and poetry. Most of the instruments we use (guitars, bass, fiddle, mandolin, and the like) are acoustic . . . and many of the performances are from original works by our entertainers. Our shows are not tailored for any particular age group, but there's a certain amount of nostalgia in them that appeals to mature audiences. We feature enough modern pieces (performances) to keep younger crowds interested (although our shows are not a place for young children). We don't do off-color or bawdy humor in our shows (you'll have to catch us later for that), and we stay fairly mainstream with our content. In other words, we're not likely to embarrass you, but we'll sure entertain you. Finding a good rhythm is important to our shows. They move along quickly, and the tempo of the show is upbeat, even when we're doing ballads and poems. It's hard to explain, since it's something you must experience to understand . . . but the show has a rhythm that carries you along with it. We work hard at keeping it that way.

How We Work:

Gathering -
Need a bunch of entertainers to fill an entire day's worth of performances?   We can handle it.  We'll come as a complete gathering - individual performances by singers, poets, and musicians.  And we'll do a night show for you . . . or even a dance, if you need to go that direction.  Let us know what you need, and we'll see what we can come up with.

The Stage Show  (8)- complete troupe of eight, tailor made for stage shows.   This is our biggest show, the full treatment with a crew big enough to handle three hours of on stage entertainment.

The Stage Show (6) - A slightly smaller troupe than the Big 8 show, but still a full show with lots of good music, humor, and poetry.

The Stage Show (4) - a small cast with a big punch . . . a show that usually features one headliner and three backup performers.   This show will be worked by the CCC members who are more versitile, can do a variety of things.

Pardners - a two man show, for the budget minded, or for someone looking for a good show to fill a 90 minute or less slot.

The Solo - if you really need just one performer, and you want a good one, we can do that too.   Perhaps you want a singer, or a poet, or a storyeller (humorist), or even a lecturer or public speaker.  We've got several troupe members who fit those qualifications well.
