So, the Terminator Margerito is amazing, I've never seen someone take a pounding combination from Cotto that would KO most other fighters and not only keep coming foward, but SMILES at him afterwards... crazy...

Already talk of a second fight, should be good.

So the past few weeks have been ineresting... Pac Man did destroy Diaz, but I'm still not sure if he should be on the top of the pound for pound list. I guess the spot light has to fall somewhere.. Although, if Cotto beats Margerito, he may be a contender for the top spot...

Crazy KOs this weekend also, good watching...

what are you looking forward to coming up?

Nice you got see Williams,,, although, I wonder if he's overrated sometimes... if anyone can get around his height and size, does he really have the skills...

anyway, I'm looking forward to the Miranda Abraham fight, the first one was like a circus show... crazy...

On the other hand, speeking of crazy, I just heard that the 'retired' Mayweather may accept a second fight with Hatton by the end of the year... WHAT??? this guy is strange.... I still like him though, but really strange.

  • New to the Manhattan Board? Read This First
Are you new to Chowhound? Or just to the Manhattan board? Perhaps visiting from out of town? We've got some tips to help you get started. If you're brand new to the site, you should read our Site Etiquette (http://www.chowhound.com/topics/367605) so you don't break any rules or step on any toes. This board is focused on discussing chow in Manhattan. If you'd like tips on chow in Brooklyn, Staten Island, Queens or the Bronx, head to the Outer Boroughs board at http://www.chowhound.com/boards/19 . For other boards in the New York region, please use the boards list (use the carat next to the word 'Chowhound' in the nav bar) to see the full list. HAVE A HOT TIP? If you've got a great tip or a recommendation for someone, dive right in and post it. It's great if you can include some details of why you like a place, but even those short tips on where to find a great taco or donut are appreciated. If you need help starting a new thread, check out the FAQ: http://www.chowhound.com/faq#topic HAVE A QUESTION? The Manhattan board is a pretty active place, and a lot of questions have been covered recently--the Chowhound archives are a great resource. Use the 'SEARCH THIS BOARD' link at the top of any page (it's next to the title of the board) to get the most recent posts from the board. It doesn't mean you can't start a new thread on the subject if you don't find the answer you're looking for, FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ON THE MANHATTAN BOARD: Where should we eat in Times Square? Search terms to try: Times Square, pre-theater Where should we eat near Lincoln Center/Metropolitan Museum/Penn Station/Madison Square Gardens/etc? Search terms to try: the name of the attraction you want to eat near, plus any short form names like MSG or The Met Where should we go for our special occasion? How do I get a reservation at Babbo? And what should I order? Search terms to try: Babbo, Babbo reservation, Batali Also, check out Babbo's page at: http://www.chow.com/places/4404 This can work for any high profile restaurant in Manhattan--there are often very recent threads dedicated just to them. For information on more advanced search options, see the Search FAQ: http://www.chowhound.com/faq#find STILL HAVE A QUESTION? Manhattan chowhounds are a great resource, but help them help you by including some important details. Tell them what parts of town you'll be in, how you'll be getting around and how far you're willing to travel for great chow (Manhattan is pretty small, so you can really cover a lot of ground), what your budget is (out-of-towners, Manhattan is a more expensive place to eat in than most so your usual gauge of cheap/moderate/expensive may be off), what types of cuisine you're interested in and any other special considerations (traveling with kids? vegetarians? non-chowhounds?). If you've searched first and done some of your own research, include that in your question, too, so people can help fill in the gaps and update your knowledge rather than rehashing things you already know. Most importantly, during or after your trip, thank the local hounds for their help by reporting back. Tell people which suggestions you used and how the meals turned out, plus add tips about any great places you discovered on your own. • Downtowner Hits in the West 60's/70's...Suggestions Welcome
glad arte ATC worked for you. it is a great spot, and i can't believe i forgot to mention the free WiFi. i passed by sura today so, yup, my apologies; it sure does exist right where you said you saw it. i can't find a single listing of this place on the web, though. sookk is one block north (W102 and W103), same side of broadway. i'll have to give Sripraphai another try. we were running late the day we stopped by so we'll be back when we have more time. oh, is pad-thai typically prepared with crushed chili peppers? i think this is what draws me into Jaiya but i've never seen it prepared with chili peppers elsewhere.

My father does that and it freezes beautifully with no freezer taste to it. Just make sure you cook it before freezing it. The triangle shape comes naturally and doesn't take any longer than an irregular shaped one.

  • Ruiz says 7-foot champ Valuev doesn't scare him

  • Misaki hopes to make American impact vs. Riggs

  • Zune 16GB and 120GB boxed in the wild?

We can't verify the claim, but we have no reason to doubt the authenticity of this picture taken of Microsoft's new 16GB flash-based Zune 16 and FCC approved, 120GB Zune 120. It's not the backstory we find so solid, it's more the thought that some lonely soul is busy Photoshopping Zune rumor images on a Friday night -- an ennui so black we could not possibly fathom. Oh and the French? Zune's in Canada remember, blown-up international and the source country of this photo.

  • Delta calls "first" on LED-based DLP projector with a little help from Luminus

TI, Delta, Luminus logosEven though the product doesn't have any availability, pricing, or even a name yet, Delta Electronics is claiming to have the first full HD LED-based DLP projector, and is showing a demo unit at IFA and CEDIA. Using tech developed by TI and Luminus Devices, Delta says it's ready to go with a full-size 1080p projector with "PhlatLight" LEDs pumping out the lumens, which of course means an end to futzing around with burnt-out projector bulbs right in the middle of your feature presentation. No doubt, we're seeing LEDs show up in all manner of display devices, and if LED-lamped projector prices follow a trajectory like LED-backlit LCDs, we'd be happy campers indeed.

  • Samsung BD-P2500 Blu-ray player packs familiar specs, price

Samsung's upcoming BD-P2500 Blu-ray player promises BD-Live support out of the box when it ships in October, with its IFA announcement revealing identical specs and price ($499) to the Best Buy-exclusive BD-P2550 already on sale. Of course, with HQV video processing and a wealth of audio support including 7.1 analog output and PCM or bitstream audio for Dolby Digital, Digital Plus, TrueHD or dts soundtracks, and DTS-HD HR (after a firmware update) and DTS-HD MA bitstream support, that's not an entirely bad thing. Samsung, Panasonic, it's taken you this many generations to get a satisfactory spec sheet, now what about the price?

  • Comcast set to begin bandwidth capping come October 1st

    Filed under:

You hear so much tough-talk and blustery grand-standing these days over data capping that it's hard to take any of it too seriously. A recent announcement by Comcast, however, is sending chills down the collective spine of Engadget (and seriously threatening to put a crunch on Thomas Ricker's... er, "movie" downloads). The company recently confirmed that it will begin capping its residential broadband service at 250GB per month (or roughly 124 SD movies) come October 1st, and could simply terminate customers who violate the cap more than twice. Of course, 250GB is a pretty large chunk of bandwidth, so you'll have to be entertaining some pretty hefty habits to break that bank. Then again, who likes the Man breathing down their pipeline?

  • Double-sided transparent touch display would make Battleship amazing

    Filed under:

You've got to feel bad for the vendors at the Sign and Display Show 2008 that's going on in Tokyo right now for being totally overshadowed by IFA, but this nifty dual-sided transparent touch display from Teraokaseiko is definitely noteworthy, even if it just because it'll make future versions of Battleship and Connect 4 super fun. It's just a monochrome 256 x 120 EL-panel prototype for now, but it recognizes simple multitouch gestures like pinching, and there's definitely promise in the idea -- now if it could make it out of the Sign and Display Show and into the big leagues, we'd be all set.

  • Freud in the filings…
Anyone who reads filings regularly knows that they’re often painfully dry. That’s mostly because they’re written in a foreign language: accounting-speak combined with legal-speak and a bit of PR/marketing speak for good measure. Which is why it’s so refreshing when you come across a filing with something of a sense of humor. It’s almost like [...]
  • Politics on the brain at Caci…
Between the Democratic convention in Denver this past week and next week’s Republican version in the Twin Cities, it’s hard to escape politics. That’s even true in the SEC filings, judging by the 10-K that Caci International (CAI) filed yesterday. No matter which side you’re on, there’s no arguing that someone other than George W. [...]
  • On Apple and Dante’s Inferno…
When it comes to reading SEC filings, like Dante’s Inferno, there’s definitely levels circles of hell. And bylaw changes clearly qualify as being close to the center of the earth because of the legalistic language that takes more than a few cups of coffee to get through. But yesterday, Apple (AAPL) filed this 8K with [...]
  • A golden guarantee at GFI Group…
The stock price of GFI Group (GFIG), an interdealer broker, took a bounce when the firm announced on July 31 that it was in merger talks with UK-based Tullett Prebon plc. (If the two companies do hook up, I guess someone will have to decide whether the combined firm is in the business of “broking,” as the British [...]

  • Boscov's, Inc. and Affiliates File Chapter 11 in Delaware

Early this morning, August 4, 2008, Boscov’s, Inc. and 7 affiliated debtors filed Chapter 11 petitions in Delaware.  The affiliates are: Boscov’s Investment Company, Boscov’s Department Store, LLC, Boscov’s Finance Company, Inc., Boscov’s PSI Inc., Boscov’s Transportation Company LLC, Retail Construction and Development, Inc. and SDS, Inc.  Judge Kevin Gross is presiding over these cases.  The petition is here.

According to an affidavit filed by Michael J. Hughes, Executive VP-Capital Development for Boscov’s, Inc. and Boscov’s Department Stores, LLC, Boscov’s Inc., through Boscov’s Department Stores and other subsidiaries, owns and operates the nation’s largest family owned, full-service department store chain, and currently operates 49 stores in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, New York, Delaware and Virginia.

Mr. Hughes indicates in his affidavit that the collapse of the housing market, skyrocketing energy and gasoline prices and steadily increasing food costs, among other things, have resulted in a decline in the discretionary spending by consumers upon which the Debtors’ businesses depends.  Tightening in the credit markets, including tightening of credit terms by Boscov’s trade creditors, is also noted as a factor in the filing.

The expressed goal of Boscov’s filing is to develop a business plan that will recast and streamline the Debtors’ capital and expense structure to position the Debtors to compete successfully in the broadline retail industry.  In the short term, the Debtors anticipate the closing of approximately 10 unprofitable stores and the immediate liquidation of the inventory in those stores through going-out-of-business sales.  Boscov’s is looking to have a plan proposed in the fall with possible confirmation during the first quarter of 2009.
