The Kooks
The Brighton boys are back with their new album 'Konk'
In the wake of ‘Upper West Side Soweto,' math rock and dance punk, it is quite easy to be sniffy about The Kooks. But when you need a break from Brooklyn why not look to Brighton for your dollop of musical ice cream? Was it just two years ago we all sang along happily to a song about sitting on a sofa our spirits raised by the frenetic jangle pop? After 2006's debut chart topper Inside In/Inside Out the stage school boys are back with their sophomore album Konk, and expectations are high. The familiar summer pop guitars and slapping drums are in attendance but on further investigation the album's main aim seems to be to break the USA market. They do this by ditching their very English quirky sound.
